Newest Propel Fuels Station Offers Downtown Sacramento Drivers Increased Choice at the Pump

Ninth Propel fueling station in Greater Sacramento region provides convenient and cost-effective access to clean, American-made, E85 Flex Fuel and biodiesel for drivers and fleets

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  (September 10, 2012) – Propel Fuels (, a leading retailer of renewable fuels and clean mobility solutions, today announced the opening of its newest renewable fuel station, co-located at the Mak’s Valero station at 1101 Broadway in downtown Sacramento. Conveniently located near I-80, Business Route 80, I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 99, the ninth Propel station in the Greater Sacramento area makes it convenient for consumers and fleets to fuel their vehicles with clean, American-made renewable fuels. As part of the opening celebration running September 11-14, Propel will provide Sacramento drivers and fleets with $10 of free E85 Flex Fuel or Biodiesel. The free fuel promotion encourages local drivers to experience the quality and performance of renewable fuels.

“Fleets and families in greater Sacramento have shown us that access to renewable fuels is important to them, so we’re continuing to grow our network of stations here,” said Matt Horton, CEO of Propel. “This is an ideal location, conveniently situated near both the freeway network and downtown, where new fueling stations aren’t common. We’re excited to be partnering with Mak’s to bring increased fuel choices to downtown Sacramento drivers while helping make progress toward our nation’s clean energy goals.”

Sacramento has the highest number of renewable fuel pumps in the state and a long list of private and public fleets that are fueling their operations with domestically produced renewable fuels. Propel’s fleet program already provides renewable fuels to a growing list of local businesses and organizations including Calif. Department of Transportation, Calif. Lottery, the United States Postal Service, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Sacramento County, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hertz Rental Car – Rocklin, Judi’s Cleaners, Summit Airworks and Yolo County Vector Control, just to name a few.

In addition to fleets, today, over one million Californians drive alternative fuel-ready vehicles, but the majority does not have access to renewable fuels. Numerous cars and trucks from manufacturers such as Chevy, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mercedes, and Toyota are E85 Flex Fuel-compatible, and every diesel vehicle can run on Propel biodiesel blends. Drivers can simply switch back and forth between renewable fuels (Flex Fuel or biodiesel), and their petroleum equivalents (gasoline or diesel) any time they want. Vehicles that can run on E85 can be identified by the manufacturer’s yellow gas cap or Flex Fuel badge or through the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Drivers can check their vehicle’s E85 compatibility on Propel’s website at:

Drivers and fleets can also track and report CO2 emission reductions as a result of their choice of renewable fuels through Propel’s proprietary CleanDrive® program (  Logging in at each fill up, CleanDrive members receive personalized emissions reports showing their reductions in CO2 emissions, barrels of oil displaced, and equivalent annual impact of mature trees.

Propel currently operates 28 fueling stations throughout California and Washington State with more than 200 stations planned for new and existing markets over the next two years. Within the Greater Sacramento Area, Propel also operates stations on Folsom Boulevard and Florin Road and in Citrus Heights (2), Elk Grove, Rocklin, Roseville and Placerville. As even more sustainable fuel technologies advance, Propel’s station platform provides the flexibility to offer even newer fuel technologies into the future. Propel will continue to work with the very best current and next-generation fuel suppliers to bring responsible, high performance renewables fuels into all its fuel blends.
