Media Advisory: Propel Fuels & Solazyme To Deliver World’s First Consumer Access to Algae-based Fuel

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.  (November 12, 2012) – Beginning at a kickoff event Tuesday, November 13th, Propel Fuels (, a leading retailer of renewable fuels and clean mobility solutions, and Solazyme, Inc. (NASDAQ: SZYM), a renewable oil and bioproducts company, are bringing algae-derived fuel to retail pumps for what we believe to be the first time in history. The two leading renewable fuel brands have come together to offer Solazyme’s algae-based Soladiesel®BD to drivers through Propel’s Bay Area network of retail renewable fuel locations. The month-long pilot program provides the industry’s first opportunity to test consumer response to this advanced renewable fuel.

For the first time in the nation, Propel & Solazyme are offering a new choice to California drivers: premium quality, low carbon, algae-derived biodiesel for their vehicles. In four markets across the Bay Area, drivers will be able to choose Propel B20 biodiesel made from Solazyme’s 100% algae-derived Soladiesel®BD.

This is a month-long product premiere.
This B20 blend of algae-based biodiesel will be sold in line with today’s pricing, at Propel’s Redwood City, San Jose (Downtown), Berkeley, and Oakland stations.
“After the pump” surveys to Propel customers will help the partners to understand consumer perceptions of, and interest in, algae-based fuels (and other advanced biofuels).
