Frequently Asked Questions

Will my franchisor/fuel supplier approve me adding renewable fuels to my site?

Yes. Under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 passed by Congress, station owners have the right to add renewable fuels to their locations without issue. It is up to Propel and the individual dealer to ensure that all image and tanker path guidelines are met. Propel will be responsible for the ongoing compliance with all image guidelines.

Will renewable fuel drive new business to my location?

Yes. Propel strategically selects stations within individual markets, and our consumer outreach programs drive new customers to your sites every day. In addition, initial customer intercept information also has shown that up to 25% of Propel’s customers purchase products and use services from other ancillary businesses at the location. Renewable fuel customers often drive the extra mile for clean fuels, increasing the geographic footprint of your customer base, drawing in new customers from outside your current market.

What support will Propel provide to attract customers to my site?

Propel’s marketing and consumer outreach programs are some of the most advantageous aspects of the partnership. Propel can only be profitable if the individual sites are successful, and thus marketing and consumer outreach programs are thorough and ongoing. Propel has an experienced and motivated marketing team whose sole responsibility is to drive customers to your location through marketing campaigns ranging from PR events, direct mail outreach, email marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships. Propel has partnerships with Ford, GM, the USPS, Caltrans, DGS, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Jiffy Lube and more.

What types of vehicles use flex fuel E85 and biodiesel?

Flex Fuel vehicles can use flex fuel E85 and all diesel engines can run on biodiesel blends. Visit our Vehicles page for a full list of compatible vehicles (link to Vehicles page).

What is the term of the Co-Location Agreement?

All current agreements are 15 years with an option period.

How will I be compensated for fuel sales?

Propel offers several compensation packages that will meet your financial needs.

How long is construction?

Construction takes approximately 4 weeks.

What equipment is typically installed?

We’ll generally install a POS dispenser, fuel lines, storage tanks, street signage and back-of-house equipment. In some cases, Propel will install a separate canopy as well.

How much impact will construction have on my existing business?

Propel and our partners have become experts at minimizing station impact through intelligent design and efficient processes. Propel works with the owner, sources contractors familiar with the work to be done, and has experience that can only be gained from multiple projects to streamline the process.

Will Propel’s need for signage impact my existing signage?

Propel can usually secure all sign permits and variances without impacting existing signage. However, if your site is completely maxed out on signage, we may need to find an equitable solution. Often the City can be more flexible given the “renewable fuel” aspect of the project.

Does Propel provide insurance?

Propel provides $2,000,000 of pollution and liability insurance per site and names the operator as additional insured.

Who sets the retail fuel prices?

Propel sets prices and changes our price signs and dispenser remotely so there is no need for you or your employees to spend time adjusting pricing.

Who handles maintenance and environmental compliance?

Propel and Propel’s vendors or suppliers will handle the majority of the maintenance and repairs. Propel vendors are very mindful of your customers and will not block their access to your site.

Who is responsible if a Propel product damages a customer’s car?

Propel indemnifies the operator against any damages and handles all claims. Propel displays a customer service number on the fuel dispenser in case of any issues.

How do I handle run-outs, customer complaints, equipment failure, etc.?

Just call our customer service. Propel’s operations team will handle any issues as efficiently and effectively as possible. All of Propel’s equipment is clearly marked with a customer service number for consumers to call if any issues occur.
