California Governor Schwarzenegger Marks the Opening of Propel Fuels’ Newest Renewable Fuel Station

Statewide expansion provides new fuel choices, reduces use of petroleum, and creates clean energy jobs

SAN JOSE, Calif.  (October 28, 2010) – At an event later today, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will open the newest renewable fuel station from Propel Fuels (www.propelfuels.com), a leading retailer of domestically-produced, low-carbon fuels. Governor Schwarzenegger’s leadership in developing the state’s clean energy economy and fostering a healthier environment has paved the way for Propel’s rollout of 75 retail alternative fuel stations across California. The station rollout is part of California’s Low Carbon Infrastructure Investment Initiative, which will create more than 450 jobs across the state, while displacing millions of gallons of petroleum, and providing California’s drivers with better choices at the pump.

“We cannot address our environmental concerns without also addressing the cars we drive and the fuels that power them. That’s why I have challenged businesses and entrepreneurs to innovate and to develop alternative fuels and cleaner modes of transportation, which is exactly what Propel is doing here today with the opening of their newest renewable fuel station,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “Building stations like this up and down the state creates jobs while helping clean our air and giving motorists better access to alternative fuels. This is great for the environment, the economy and California.”

The fueling infrastructure project is funded in part by a $10.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and California Energy Commission (CEC), and is matched by Propel’s $16 million in private investment. Propel will work with community partners CALSTART and East Bay Clean Cities to educate consumers and fleets on the benefits of low-carbon, renewable fuels available today as well as the next generation of fuels in development.

In order to help meet California’s growing demand for clean, renewable fuels, Propel moved their headquarters from Washington to California.  California’s greenhouse gas laws, alternative fuel programs, the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and Governor Schwarzenegger’s environmental and economic leadership are the drivers that brought Propel to California.

Flex Fuel (E85) and biodiesel are offered at all California locations. Consumers and fleets can identify E85 capable Flex Fuel vehicles by the yellow gas cap, manufacturer’s badge, or by checking the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) online at www.propelfuels.com/driveE85. Vehicle manufacturers endorse Propel’s B5 biodiesel for use in all diesel vehicles with no conversion or engine modifications necessary.

Propel continues to expand consumer access to renewable fuels as it builds out its network of fuel stations state-wide. Along with its current network of stations in the Bay Area and Sacramento, Propel has begun development of station locations in all major markets across California, with 200 stations expected over the next two years.
